Dalyan is a riverside town an hour and a half from Fethiye, and the day trip there is one of the most varied on the coast. You travel by minibus with a guide, then switch to a wooden river boat that winds through the reed beds of the Dalyan delta.

The first sight is the row of temple-fronted tombs cut into the cliff above the river by the people of ancient Kaunos. From there the boat continues to İztuzu beach, a long sandbar between the river and the sea where loggerhead turtles lay their eggs, and you have about two hours to swim. On the way you may see blue crabs and turtles in the river itself.

Lunch is served at a riverside restaurant, then it is time for the mud bath and hot sulphur spring, a habit here for centuries. The last stop is a swim in Lake Köyceğiz, and guests who want more history can walk up to the ruins of Kaunos before heading back.
